Kompleks Asia Cityannounces the official opening of its Skating Rink tonight, a 15,000 sqft entertainment centre located on the mall’s fourth floor. This marksthe opening of the first skating rink in Sabah, and also the first inEast Malaysia.
A project that saw several months of planning,preparation and quite a bit of expenditure to the tune of overRM2,800,000 in renovation and installation, the Skating Rink presents afantastic new experience for both newcomers and veterans of bothleisurely skating and competitive skating in Sabah.
Built usingthe remarkable Swiss-made Smart Ice system, which provides an icelesssurface that simulates the glide, tension and texture of real ice, the4,116 sq ft rink was conceptualised as an attraction for skaters of allages and experience levels. A.C. Property Development Sdn. Bhd.Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Ting Inc Chiew shares that the rinkwill very likely attract curious children and teenagers and theirparents, however, and that it stands as the perfect place to spend aleisurely weekend.
“The rink is situated right next to theparking lot (on the fourth floor), so it’s definitely easy to access.You drive in and go straight to the rink. You don’t have to go throughthe crowds in the mall to get there. Parents can leave their kids tohave fun while they shop and do their own thing. When you’re done, youcan just leave the rink, get right into your car and go straight home.”
TheKAC Skating Rink is capable of comfortably accommodating up to 120skaters at a time, and special footwear that strikes middle groundbetween true bladed skates and wheeled roller-blades make it easier fornewcomers to get into the exercise. Admission prices are quiteinexpensive: RM10 and RM12 for general patrons, RM8 and RM10 forstudents and RM6 and RM8 for children under 12 on weekdays andweekends, respectively.
KAC Skating Rink’s official launch willfeature a number of athletes and performers who have been invited topresent demonstrations on the “ice” throughout the afternoon, beginningat 3pm. Starting with a ceremony at which Datuk Dr. Yee Moh Chai willofficiate, and which was attended by Miss Sabah 2007 and KAC’s officialspokesperson Madelyne Nandu, demos will include a mock ice hockey gameby a team from Kuala Lumpur, a number of stunts performed bySingaporean slalom team Micro Sports, and a couple figure skatingperformance by an experienced pair from China.
Experiencedskaters and newbies alike are invited to attend the proceedings. Be thefirst to try out the KAC Skating Rink for absolutely nothing: after theceremony, the general public is invited to put on the centre’s rentedskates and give the Smart Ice system a go.
The KAC Skating Rinkwill officially launch today at 3pm, on the fourth floor of KompleksAsia City.
